Big Boy’s Construction

Serving the Greater Indianapolis Area With Superior Roofing Services

The purpose of a roof is to protect a home and everything inside, but when the roof doesn’t have proper ventilation, it can cause a host of significant and expensive problems. Roof vents, ventilation, and attic insulation all go hand-in-hand to keep the roof and attic at the right temperature, preventing mold growth, ice dams, and to keep your home as energy-efficient as possible.

Roof vents and ventilation are designed to naturally allow hot air to escape outside, which will help reduce the need for air conditioning. During the winter months, ventilation and insulation keep the roof cold, preventing snow from melting and refreezing, causing the formation of ice dams along the eaves.

With properly installed vents and a well-designed ventilation system, it will prolong the life of the roof and can go a long way in keeping your home comfortable throughout the year and as efficient as possible. The roofing contractors at Big Boy’s Construction have been serving the Indianapolis area for years. Our family-owned roofing company is committed to providing the highest level of craftsmanship and integrity. Whether you’re getting a complete roof installation or simply need minor repairs, you can count on us for exceptional roofing services.

Types of Roof Ventilation Systems
Expert Roofing Services You Can Trust

Roofing ventilation systems are passive, meaning that air moves naturally through the house without a motor or fan. There are three basic types of passive ventilation systems, and the roofing contractors at Big Boy’s Construction will ensure that you get the right system for your home.

Ridge Vents: Ridge vents are located at the peak of the roof and are built on both sides of the ridge. They are typically covered with a thin layer of shingles and are the most effective type of passive ventilation. As hot air that accumulates in the attic escapes outside through the vents, cool air from outside is pulled into the attic through soffit vents.

Soffit Vents: Soffit vents are located under the eaves of the roof. The combination of soffit and ridge vents is what keeps the roof and attic the right temperature throughout the year — avoiding an incredibly hot attic in the summer and ice dams in the winter.

Gable Vents: Although not as common or efficient as ridge and soffit ventilation systems, gable vents are still used in some homes. Gable vents are located on the side of the house, just below the ridge of the roof.

Indiana sees a wide range of weather conditions, from hot summers and intense winters. These conditions can wreak havoc on roofing systems that don’t have proper ventilation. And poor ventilation can lead to a variety of issues. If your roof is in need of ventilation repairs or if you need a new ventilation system installed, Big Boy’s Construction is the team for the job. If your roof hasn’t been inspected recently, give us a call to schedule a free estimate. We’ll complete a thorough inspection to ensure that every aspect of your roof is in good condition.
